Traditional Application

Formwork, supplying, ramming and removal of the formwork...

Most modern formwork techniques have been tried in order to reduce the application time of the rammed earth.

Nicolas Meunier uses 1m high modular metal formworks.
Currently compaction is achieved with a compressed air rammer.

Time is mainly saved through the mechanical transport of the soil into the formwork.
An experienced operator needs 3/4 of an hour to compact 1 m2 of soil.
Including the time needed to prepare the soil, the formwork, general handling and removal of the formwork, the application time is approximately 4 to 6 hours depending on the details of the project.
The formwork is immediately removed from the wall after compacting, leaving the wall with a smooth surface finish from the formwork.
In Rhône-Alpes, it is possible to build in earth from April to October. In winter there is a risk of the material freezing. Soil cannot be prepared in the rain.
